Alpena Elementary/Middle School

This grant will supply equipment for five GLOBE atmosphere measurement sites to be monitored by students when they are learning from home due to health concerns. Data will be reported to GLOBE and analyzed by students as part of their research projects. The Alpena School has been active in GLOBE and reporting atmosphere data for several years. The grant will also supply one Calitoo sun photometer for the measurement of aerosol optical thickness and one Purple Air sensor to investigate air quality. The teacher will supply instrument shelters and mounting posts and help install them

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from support for taking simple measurements to teacher professional development and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
