Women’s Cooperative of Sogromin, Columbia
Sogromin (pop. 300) is located in the Sierra Nevada Indigenous Reservation in northern Colombia. Its Women’s Cooperative is supporting informal learning and the local community is deeply concerned with the impacts of climate change on the local ecosystems including retreat of glaciers and the changing habitats of endangered gazelles and parrots. To better inform local hunting behavior, the Cooperative plans to gather data on wildlife as citizen scientists and use analyses of the data to educate the local community. YLACES will provide a GPS receiver to enable geolocation of wildlife observations in this remote location.
