Federal University of Technology

Nigeria

Grant amount:

$1,690

A GLOBE Group at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State in Southwestern Nigeria will use a multipurpose water quality meter to measure the water quality of the stream that flows through a community (Ilara-Mokin), where many of FUTA students reside. The area is subject to water pollution and a variety of water borne diseases, particularly cholera, malaria and typhoid fever. The meter will be used around southwestern Nigeria, and all data will be reported to GLOBE and shared with YLACES. Local workshops will be organized for participating GLOBE scientists, teachers, and students in the region. Research findings will be shared with others through monthly GLOBE webinars. The research findings will also be submitted to GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium 2019.
