Equipment is provided for use in doing multiple GLOBE protocols with Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Tina Overman serves as the STEM Facilitator at Bear Tavern Elementary School and will use the equipment along with other GLOBE materials to engage 430 students in 20 homerooms in data collection and data entry as citizen scientists. GLOBE data collection and analysis may lead students to reason their way through engineering design challenges through which they will continue to practice a real-world problem solving mindset. The first focus will be on third grade.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
