McKinley STEMM Academy

Toledo, Ohio

Grant amount:

$950

This grant is a response to the current restrictive situation limiting school attendance. The students live in the inner city with no access to a water body. The GLOBE Teacher will take hydrology measurements at a local river while being live streamed to her students. The students will analyze the data and do research investigations using these data. Their reports will be submitted to the GLOBE International Virtual Student Symposium (IVSS). The grant will supply 30 IR thermometers that students will use to take surface temperature measurements near their homes. Students will have use of the devices for a quarter and then return them for other students to use. The grant will involve about 65 students. The grant will also supply an externdible swing sampler to allow collection of samples up to 12 feet from shore.
