Taiwan GLOBE Post Plus

Students and teachers at Hsin Tien High School and Xin Wu High School will collect data on mosquito prevalence and weather conditions following GLOBE Atmosphere protocols and using the Mosquito Habitat Mapper app. They will investigate the correlation of weather conditions with mosquito abundance. To provide atmosphere measurements each school will be provided a multi-day max/min thermometer a rain gauge, a digital hygrometer, and a pH meter.

Data will be submitted to GLOBE. Students will analyze these data. Smart phone magnifying lenses will be provided for mosquito larvae observations.

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
