This grant funds research equipment for students to use in an on-site nature preserve and outdoor classroom under development at Andrew Jackson Middle School. This atmosphere and soil research equipment will provide endless learning and research experiences for the students. The equipment will be used to teach scientific concepts through hands-on data collection, and provide students with the opportunity to complete a research project as part of the science curriculum. The supplies provided by this grant will make it possible for all students at Andrew Jackson Middle School to be exposed to real-world data collection and research in their science classes.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
