Suffield Outdoor Learning Lab

$1,250

This grant will provide equipment to be used in the environmental sciences courses as well as used in individual research projects as part of the student’s senior capstone project.  The equipment will also be made available to clubs and community groups to do environmental research at the John and Madeline McClean Outdoor Educational Preserve. Specifically, the grant money will be used to purchase materials for water testing and macro-invertebrate studies.  Suffield High School has approximately 780 students, each will have the opportunity to participate in the environmental science course and have an opportunity to do a research project at the Outdoor Educational Preserve.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
