Roger Rose 2023 Weather Station

Grant amount:

$1,328

Alpena, Arkansas

Making observations and collecting data using the GLOBE protocols provides an excellent way for students to conduct real life hands-on science investigations and collect meaningful data.  Then the students can analyze the data and share their results with others.  By conducting hands-on investigations using proven protocols, sound data collection techniques, and appropriate scientific equipment, students will gain a better understanding in the ways of scientific thinking.

Students will learn how to use the GLOBE protocols to make observations, collect, and submit data using the GLOBE website and the GLOBE Observer apps.  Students will use the Davis Weather Station data in conjunction with various other observations and data collected to analyze the atmosphere and environment in Arkansas. Students will use the sky quality meter to collect data for the GLOBE at Night program which is an international citizen-science campaign to raise public awareness of the impact of light pollution.  Students will write research reports and Nature Notes to document and share their data with the GLOBE and scientific communities.

Students will also have the opportunity to submit their projects and data to the SE Regional GLOBE SRS as well as the GLOBE IVSS in hope of attending the 2024 GLOBE Annual Meeting to present their projects.
