Alice Ferguson Foundation
Grant amount:
$1,500
Accokeek, Maryland
We are requesting a $1,500 grant from YLACES to enhance our STEM-focused educational initiatives by purchasing advanced robotics equipment. This funding will support the acquisition of Angelfish kits from Seamate (affiliated with the MATE competition), along with necessary materials such as PVC pipes, connectors, lithium batteries, and organizational supplies. These resources will be used to engage 2,000 5th-12th grade students in hands-on research projects that explore programming, engineering, and data analysis.
Students will design, build, and program underwater robots, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. Their involvement and learning outcomes will be assessed through pre- and post-surveys, observations, and project documentation. The results will be compiled into comprehensive reports, demonstrating the program's impact on students' STEM knowledge and interest. By incorporating robotics into our curriculum, we aim to inspire a passion for science and technology and prepare students for future academic and career success. If awarded, this grant will be instrumental in providing the necessary resources to achieve these goals.
