Each year, Allegheny College’s Creek Connections program hosts two Student Research Symposia, which bring together the schools that participate in our watershed-based project. The symposia are held in April: One is held at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., and the other is held at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Fombell, Pa. During the symposia, we involve almost 50 teachers, and their students, from more than 35 schools throughout western Pennsylvania. Students present research projects such as oral presentations, table displays, posters, games, etc. Students also interact with professionals from regional environmental organizations. A highlight of the day is the focus group session where students are placed in small groups to participate in a hands-on learning activity. Allegheny College seeks $5,000 in grant funding for Creek Connections’ 2025 Student Research Symposia. Funding will be used to cover a facility rental fee and for student transportation to/from the symposia.
