Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students/Crossroads School

Grant amount:

$1,500

Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students (BUGS) and the Crossroads School grant will be used with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students off-campus at 6 separate trips, one at the beginning of the year and one at the end of the year for each grade level. The entire school will be participating, so a total of 163 students will be involved. Funding will be used for instruments and supplies needed to conduct research and for transportation to the off-site location. Our 6th grade students will be testing the water quality in the creek using two methods: the traditional method (pH paper, thermometer, hydrometers, and Secchi disks) and our NASA AREN water quality rover. Sixth graders will also observe macroinvertebrates in the creek. 7th grade students will do the same and will measure stream flow. 8th graders will collect macroinvertebrates in the Patapsco River.
