Educating Children Outdoors

Grant amount:

$1,266

Arizona

Educating Children Outdoors Conservation Biology program, aimed at middle & high School (7th-12th grade) grade levels, serves 24-35 homeschool students ranging from 13-18 years old. The place-based, hands-on, weekly program is offered both in person and online and also as a hybrid to accommodate those with any constraints. Students can earn a high school lab credit in biology or environmental science if they choose to complete the homework assignments and final project. The ECO Conservation Biology program aims to provide students with a transformative educational experience that will nurture a sense of wonder, compassion, community, and responsibility. ECO is seeking $1500 to help conduct the biology class and collect and analyze the data we will be collecting throughout the year. The data we will be collecting will be shared with multiple community science initiatives and will help local organizations further their conservation work in our fragile desert ecosystem. Some of these projects include monitoring soil and water quality, collecting phenology data, monitoring heat island effect and other climate change considerations, and more. Through the ECO Conservation Biology, we will be creating a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who are equipped to tackle the challenges our planet faces. Together, we can work to ignite a passion for conservation, empower students to make informed decisions and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
