Frontier Central School District

Grant amount:

$1,500

Hamburg, New York

Grant funds will primarily be used to support the restoration of the aquaponics systems, as students will create native species tanks and touch tanks that allow people to interact with Lake Erie fish and wildlife species. Funds will also be used to purchase binoculars and bird field guides for studying local wildlife at the site, along with environmental science equipment (i.e. PH probes, thermometers, etc.) and steel dissecting pans for hands-on educational lessons at the site. Through this program, students will study Lake Erie fish and wildlife species, as well as local birds, to share locally-sourced details on how the Great Lakes provide a refuge to many animals and plants in Western New York and affect the environment. The Seaway Trail has been added to the NYS Birding Trail, so it is critical to have bird-watching equipment available for students and the community at large. Students will share their data and research with visitors and other Frontier Central School District students through written reports and/or PowerPoint presentations.
