Through this grant, we would like to carry out Environmental Awareness and Scientific Literacy through Science Symposiums and Competitions for schools in Kenya starting with 5 schools in Mombasa County (3 primary and 2 Secondary schools). This will involve 60 students, 10 teachers and 3 facilitators.

The budget for the Workshop will be as follows:

• Workshop and Training (60 students + 10 teachers + 3 facilitators)

- Meals and Refreshments ($ 320)

- Teachers’ Allowance ($ 112)

• Support Materials and Resources (From the hosting institution)

• Miscellaneous ($ 50)

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
