Skyline High School / Oakland Unified

Grant amount:

$211

Oakland, California

This grant will be used by our Urban Ecology & Land Stewardship classes (~60 students) to study the soil and precipitation characteristics for a section of our campus so they can design and create a fruit orchard with an irrigation system. The class is a new hands-on CTE class open to all grades. During the year, the classes will use the Soil Gravimetric, Fertility and and Infiltration protocols to understand the soil type and how it may need to be modified or amended to support fruit trees. The class will also use some of the atmosphere and hydrosphere protocols to understand precipitation and run-off patterns at the site. They will use this information and work in teams to design potential irrigation systems.
