The Davis Weather Station will be used to enhance a current middle school course centered on GLOBE activities and observations.  Due to extreme temperature ranges, there are times when students are unable to collect temperature data using the Taylor Digital Max/Min Thermometer (Range: -20°F to 120°F (-29°C to 50°C). The Davis Vantage Vue® Weather Station with WeatherLink Console (Range: 40° to +150°F (-40° to +65°C) will remedy this issue as well as help provide data for additional variables.This data will also be streamed to the GLOBE website. In addition to GLOBE protocols, students have also built kites supplied by the AREN project as part of their coursework. This is the second semester the course is being offered, with hopes to become a permanent course offering.

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
