Stewards of Eden

Rwanda

Stewards of Eden, a non-profit founded in 2021 by 22 local science teachers in Rwanda, requests funds to purchase a spectrophotometer, PH sensors and detector kit(s), soil PH meter/Soil moisture meters, thermometers, and rain gauges. Their project will engage between 150-200 students in schools in the southern province of Rwanda. Students will take data and conduct research on water and soil health in their community. Data will be hand-recorded and computed by students. They will present their findings in class and contribute to an environmental education book in the local indigenous Kinyarwanda language.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
