UWA Black Belt STEM Education Institute

Grant amount:

$5,000

Livingston, Alabama

We are proposing to organize a Climate Symposium, benefiting 50-70 high school students from diverse backgrounds. This one-day event will feature student project presentations, interactive panel discussions, and hands-on activities focused on climate science, sustainable practices, and environmental advocacy. The symposium aims to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to address climate change issues in their communities fostering a generation of proactive environmental leaders. This personalized approach will invoke collaborative learning and an advising process that uses effective communication strategies and digital communication to ensure adaptability and instant satisfaction due to the positive impact made on the local environment, which will eventually result in a more climate-aware region and state. To assess and report participant involvement and impact, we will keep detailed attendance records, analyze the number and quality of student projects, administer pre- and post-event surveys with participants, as well as conduct observations to gauge changes in knowledge and attitudes. This symposium will provide students with invaluable insights and inspire them to take meaningful action towards a sustainable future.
