Ardmore Elementary School PGCPS

Maryland

Grant amount:

$1,300

Ardmore Elementary School is part of the PGCPS Air Quality Learning Community which aims to engage students, educators, and community members in understanding and improving air quality through interactive learning with real-world applications. This initiative will incorporate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to explore the impact of air pollution on health and the environment. The grant will provide an indoor and outdoor Kaiterra air monitoring device for Ardmore ES. Students will conduct hands-on experiments measuring the indoor and outdoor air quality at their school, data analysis projects to compare and track pollution trends, and discussions on policy solutions to mitigate poor air conditions. Students will collaborate on research projects, design awareness campaigns, and develop actionable plans to improve air quality in the Prince George’s County community.  The equipment needed for students to take data for their research and advocacy is one Kaiterra Air Quality monitor for use outside and one to measure air quality in the school. These devices are supported by a gateway (dashboard) allowing sharing and comparison of data.
