Davidson High School

Alabama

Grant amount:

$1,574

Davidson High School seeks funds to purchase a Davis Weather Station and PurpleAir monitor and support to host an SRS to ensure students have access to real-time environmental data, conduct research, and present their findings. Students will work in teams to collect daily observations, graph results, and generate weekly summaries, which will be integrated into both science and math classes. Teachers will embed the data into lab activities, projects, and homework assignments, helping students connect classroom content to real-world applications.

To extend learning beyond the classroom, students will upload data to GLOBE and other public monitoring networks, compare results with regional and national datasets, and prepare presentations for school board meetings, science fairs, and community partners. Students will present their weather and air quality research projects in poster or oral format. Peer-to-peer review will be embedded, with students giving structured feedback to one another using provided rubrics. Local STEM professionals such as meteorologists, environmental scientists, and university faculty from the University of South Alabama will be invited to serve as reviewers, provide feedback, and engage in Q&A sessions. The symposium will be hosted at Davidson High School in the Copeland Auditorium. The target date is spring semester 2027.
