The Toledo Zoo and Aquarium

Ohio

Grant amount:

$5,000

The student research symposium will take place at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium (TZA) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in the Malawi Pavilion. The target population is students grades 3 through 12 from schools/classrooms that participate in a TZA sponsored program, Project PRAIRIE (PP). PP is a grant funded program with a goal of installing ¼ acre prairie habitat on 50 school campuses in Toledo, Ohio and the surrounding area. Zoo education staff follow up with schools to train teachers and provide inquiry based programming for students that is focused on the prairies. Many of the participating teachers utilize GLOBE protocols with their students when studying prairie habitat. Others develop their own projects that  may incorporate other community and citizen science projects (e.g., iNaturalist) and inquiry research skills.
