This grant will fund implement of an innovative air quality monitoring project at Ezi-Awka Community Secondary School in Awka, Anambra State. The project is designed to engage approximately 50 secondary school students in hands-on environmental research, equipping them with the skills to monitor local air quality using low-cost sensors. Through this initiative, students will learn about the sources and impacts of air pollution, data collection techniques, and the analysis of environmental data, thereby fostering environmental stewardship and enhancing their STEM skills. By empowering these young individuals with practical knowledge and real-world applications, the initiative aims not only to improve local environmental health but also to inspire proactive advocacy for cleaner air within the community.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
