$1,500

The grant will equip 5 GLOBE Teams with tools to investigate microplastic in natural waters near their school. Students involved in the GLOBE program will examine water samples and analyze for microplastics during the spring and autumn seasons in rivers, lakes, and artificial reservoirs. There are currently around 1500 pupils aged 8-18 years who are engaged in scientific activities at different levels. The results of the pupils' projects will be presented at a national research conference and evaluated in collaboration with experts from the GLOBE Slovakia Science Council and universities.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
