The project investigates the presence of microplastics in the Adriatic Sea at various locations in Zadar through sampling and chemical analysis of the sea. Students will actively participate in education about microplastics, fieldwork (location selection and sampling), microscopy, identification of microplastic samples, chemical analysis of the sea, data analysis and drawing conclusions. The funds provided by the grant will be used to purchase equipment necessary for the implementation of the project. The project will be presented at the school and local level (website, school newspaper Čehuljica, bulletin board), as well as to other GLOBE schools, the GLOBE Croatia page, and a science fair.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
