Grant amount:
$1,500
Naturehub Collective Community Organization seeks a second $1,500 YLACES grant to expand its successful environmental research program in Laikipia, Kenya. Building on our current project's achievements at Illpolei Secondary School, this expansion will engage 250 K-14 students (up from our current 100) in hands-on environmental data collection and analysis. The project will extend to neighboring schools and local technical institutes, creating a broader network of young environmental researchers in northeastern Laikipia County.
Students will use professional scientific equipment to monitor and document local environmental conditions, including water quality in community water points, soil conditions in various locations, weather patterns, and wildlife movements. Their research findings will be systematically documented and shared through public databases, benefiting approximately 750 community members through student-led presentations and workshops. This expansion strengthens our commitment to fostering the next generation of environmental scientists while contributing valuable data to understand and address local environmental challenges. The project exemplifies YLACES' mission of supporting youth learning through active participation in environmental science research.
