Tanzanian Environmental Data Lab (Vijana Life Org)

$2,500

This project builds on the successful environmental research model implemented at Majani ya Chai Secondary School and expands it to five schools across Tanzania. The grant will provide instruments to take environmental measurements and fund transportation of students to measurement sites. Students will collect the following environmental data:

a) Soil: pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and moisture content;

b) Water: pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, and phosphate levels; and

c) Air: PM2.5 and CO2 concentrations.

An online platform will be provided for upload of data and sharing results with the community.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
