Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation

The Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation’s (CELF)Civic Science program equips teachers and students in grades 5-12 to drive community change by cultivating data literacy, communication skills, and students’ sense of agency. Through field-based and in-service training, teachers apply CELF’s Inquiry-to-Action framework to guide students in collecting and analyzing data to investigate interconnected public health and ecological challenges, leading to action plans that advance environmental action in their school communities. The program culminates in regional Student Symposium events in CELF’s core operating areas in New York and Texas, where students present findings to local decision-makers and experts, contributing to broader policy efforts.

To support CELF’s 2026 Student Symposium events taking place at Mercy University in New York and Rice University in Texas, CELF requests a YLACES grant of $5,000. Funds will support the Symposium events in collaboration with our university partners and expert guests.
