The Klickitat Data Bridge project is a student-led initiative to eliminate a critical "data desert" in rural Washington by installing two professional-grade, solar-powered weather stations at the Klickitat and Wahkiakus fire houses. With a requested grant amount of $1,500, this project establishes a strategic partnership between our school, community, and local first responders, providing a living laboratory for our emerging Wildfire Prevention and Environmental Science courses.


By bridging classroom theory with real-world community safety, this project will directly benefit approximately 100 students through hands-on STEM curriculum and climate monitoring. Furthermore, the hyper-local weather data will be shared on public, non-proprietary networks to assist state resource management partners and over 1,500 community members in live weather data and wildfire resilience efforts.

About YLACES:

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
