Stevens Middle School

The Science Push Program at a Stevens Middle School in Port Angeles, Washington, is seeking a grant of $4986.00 to sustain and enhance its long-standing environmental science curriculum that culminates in a community science symposium where 8th-grade investigators who have conducted extensive field research on the Elwha River, present their peer-reviewed findings to peers, parents, and professional scientists. 

For 20 years, including many years prior to and after dam removal and river restoration, all ~220 of our 8th-grade science students have done a full day of field science data collection of chemical, biological, and physical parameters at the Elwha River. After students finish the fieldwork, our long-term data set becomes the basis of student scientific investigations that are developed and put through a peer review process.

The requested funding would ensure the continued growth of this NGSS-aligned program, allowing students to contribute meaningful data to regional organizations and share their scientific discoveries with the broader community.
