Grant amount:
$1,500
We are requesting a grant to purchase crucial environmental instruments for student research. The project will engage approximately 1,000 students in Grades 1–8 through scheduled outdoor learning sessions in small groups throughout the school year.
Students will participate in hands-on environmental investigations rather than observation only. Equipping students with these tools will enable hands-on learning and will give students firsthand experience collecting and analyzing environmental data, fostering critical scientific thinking.
Through research projects, students will delve deeper into local environmental issues, fostering a sense of responsibility and ownership. Students will use the equipment to collect and analyze data in the following areas: air & weather: temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, CO₂ levels, particulate matter (PM2.5/PM10); water quality: testing samples from taps, rainwater, and nearby drainage for pH, temperature, and clarity; and, soil & biodiversity: soil moisture and pH, as well as observing plants, insects, and small organisms. Student research can be used to advocate for environmental solutions within our community, promoting positive change.
