Empowering Students as Citizen Environmental Scientists will engage between 50-100 students at Federal Government College, Ilorin (oldest high school in Ilorin) in hands-on environmental research using GLOBE Program protocols.
With a requested grant of $1,500, students will be trained to collect and analyze environmental data on atmospheric conditions, soil properties, and land cover within their school and surrounding community. Equipment needed is soil and water testing kits, air quality monitor, and a weather station.
Through field investigations and guided scientific inquiry, students will develop practical STEM skills while contributing real environmental observations to the global GLOBE database. Students will work in research teams to collect data, analyze findings, and present their results through school science exhibitions and community awareness activities.
By participating in this project, students will strengthen their understanding of environmental science, develop research and critical thinking skills, and become active contributors to environmental monitoring in their community.
