General Secondary School No. 15 of Nukus City

General Secondary School No. 15 in Nukus requests a grant to launch a student-led microbiology research initiative in the Aral Sea region, one of the world's most environmentally challenged regions.


This project aims to equip the school with a high-precision digital trinocular microscope and water/soil testing kits to monitor the biological health of local ecosystems. By integrating GLOBE protocols into the STEM curriculum, students will transition from theoretical learning to active "Citizen Science," collecting and sharing critical data on soil microorganisms and water salinity that reflect the regional impact of climate change. 


The project will directly benefit approximately 50 students annually (ages 14–17), providing them with hands-on experience in microscopic analysis and data-driven environmental monitoring and research. The initiative will impact over 200 community members as students share their findings on soil health and water quality with their families and local stakeholders. 


By empowering the rising generation in Nukus with professional-grade scientific tools, this project ensures the sustainability of environmental education and inspires future careers in ecology and sustainable development within the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
