Girls Education for Climate Action (GECA)

GECA is requesting a grant from YLACES under multi-year funding . We were the beneficiaries of YLACES last year, and now we are requesting funding to expand our project impact, scale our activities, and have a sustainable project. The grant is requested for the years 2026 and 2027 to run the project in 30 schools. 

The grant will be used to acquire scientific tools for environmental audit research by primary and secondary students aged 12–18 in Ifakara, Kilombero, Tanzania. The grant will benefit 330 students who will be the club members, but in a large school community, the grant will impact a community of 15,000 pupils and students from engaged schools. The grant will enable students to engage in hands-on research activities on water, air, soil, and weather experiments; record and share the results locally with other students in their school community and with communities outside of the schools to ignite the understanding of the real-world situation for better management and conservation; and engage in a larger community through the GLOBE platform, making data available to all. 

The project aims to help students understand critical issues related to climate change and environmental conservation through practical learning and active participation and build future environmental conservationists.
