This project proposes a structured, student-led climate and environmental health research initiative in selected disadvantaged riverine communities. 


The initiative is designed as a three-year phased research and implementation program aimed at developing a scalable, school-based environmental risk surveillance model for climate-vulnerable in different communities in Nigeria. 


200 students and 2,000 community members will benefit from the project in the first year.  With the purchase of Standard Rain Gauges, Flood Depth Meter Sticks, Mosquito Larval Dippers, White Sampling Trays, Magnifying Hand Lenses, pH Test Strip Kits, and Turbidity Tubes and transport support for field visits, students conduct environmental assessments, flood mapping, vector risk identification, and community-based environmental surveillance.

About YLACES:

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
