Happy Earth Day!

Our environment varies greatly and subtly from place to place and day to day. Those joining in this celebration realize that wise stewardship of our planet requires detailed knowledge of the environment and how it is changing. Satellites and ground-based observing systems provide broad brush characterization; citizen scientists complete this picture with fine-scale measurements and observations of hidden features of the environment.

Doing environmental citizen science celebrates Earth Day every day. Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists supports this investigation of the planet, sustains effective environmental education, and seeks to equip the rising generation with the scientific habits of mind they will need to be wise stewards of Earth. Learning science by doing science recognizes Earth Day today and works to sustain our commitment in years to come.

About YLACES:

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
