Barrett Rock Selected for 1st YES Medal

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists (YLACES) announced that Dr. Barrett Rock has been selected as the first recipient of the Youth Environmental Science Medal in recognition of his founding of Forest Watch in 1992 and contributions in establishing the measurement system of the GLOBE Program while serving as its first Chief Scientist in 1994 and 1995.

The medal will be presented Friday, March 13, 2015, at the National Science Teachers Association National Meeting in Chicago, Illinois.

YLACES has contributed $10,000 to Forest Watch in honor of Dr. Rock.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
