Practical Applications of Student Environmental Research in the GLOBE Student Research Symposia

In an inspiring session at the MAEOE Annual Conference (February 6, 2021), Jennifer Bourgeault, US Country Coordinator for the GLOBE Program, described the GLOBE Student Research Symposia (SRS) and shared the evaluation findings that show that of the SRS experience strengthens students' confidence, skills, and interest in science. In addition, student-teacher teams from Detroit, Michigan, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and Birmingham, Alabama, shared their experiences conducting environmental research and sharing their findings at a symposium. They also described their current studies and plans for the future.

ABOUT YLACES

Youth Learning as Citizen Environmental Scientists assists and rewards the implementation of inquiry-based, experiential science education where students do science and contribute to the understanding of our environment through recognition and financial reward programs.

Grants range from equipment and supplies for taking environmental measurements to recognition and support for students presenting their research projects and working for pervasive inclusion of student research projects in science teaching.
